The Design Technology Co. is founded on providing a low-risk, easy-to-engage scalability option for design and drafting teams.

Clients with project based work will partner with DTCo. for additional skills and capacity in their design team during busy periods.

Fundamental to our design services:

  1. Our designers are highly practical meaning our designs can be built
  2. We have a high level of technological literacy, meaning we are able to efficiently leverage the latest technologies to improve the design process
  3. We enable SMEs to have access to the latest design technologies


We have a team of full-time, permanent mechanical designers in Melbourne and have partner businesses interstate. Our designers are highly practical, typically from a trade background, and proficient in 3D modelling, drafting and modern design workflows. 95% of the work we do is carried out on our client’s site, fully integrated with their teams. We have access to the full suite of Autodesk products and Solidworks licenses, have up-to-date hardware and are fully insured.

We have a culture of continuous learning and improvement with specific structures in place to facilitate this. It is this culture that enables us to keep up-to-date with the latest technologies and implement them in the most effective way possible.

 

History

The Design Technology Company was founded in Melbourne in July 2014 as Cornell Design Victoria. Since that time the business has grown to 20+ staff, 50+ active clients and is servicing some of Australia’s best known companies across various sectors from Defence to Rail or Dairy to Medical.

In January 2019 the business rebranded to The Design Technology Company. While the timing was driven by a management buyout, the new brand was created to reflect our capabilities and knowledge around design specific technologies. While 3D CAD was ‘cutting edge’ 15 years ago that is no longer the case and there are many new pieces of technology that can make projects more efficient and lower risk.

Our core business is still founded on integrating our designers into our clients teams for temporary periods, however we seek to maximise the value we can add by ensuring we offer the latest proven technological solutions.

 

Jonathan (Jonno) Bannister
Managing Director

Jonno is a highly motivated, entrepreneurial-minded, practical engineer with well founded business skills. Tertiary qualified with a Bachelor of Engineering (Aero) and Economics, Jonno cut his teeth in the oil field designing, maintaining and operating downhole tooling for onshore well testing.

He then spent time in Boston, USA working in a boutique mechanical design firm supporting an R&D project with a major oilfield service provider while developing concepts a pharmaceutical company’s drug delivery challenges.

At DTCo. Jonno is focused on finding businesses who can benefit from DTCo’s capabilities. He has a genuine focus on only seeking win-win engagements and derives great satisfaction from client’s successes.

If he is not at work you’ll probably find him hanging out with his 3 young kids or one day in the future maybe getting back on the water for some competitive dinghy sailing or maybe another Sydney-to-Hobart.

Tom Harris
General Manager

Tom is an accomplished team leader and systems guru with an insatiable desire to improve efficiency by applying the right tools. He is tertiary qualified with a Bachelor of Engineering (Mech) and has worked in product develop throughout in healthcare, materials handling and highly customized machine tool development. More recently Tom has owned and operated a structural steel manufacturing business completing his very broad set of experiences.

Tom joined DTCo. in July 2017 to manage the team. His appetite for efficiency combined with his energy and approachability for our staff have enabled him to lead by example and strongly influence the development of DTCo’s designers. In addition, his experience developing design solutions for some of Australia’s biggest automotive and aerospace companies has equipped Tom with the knowledge he can pass on to clients.

Perhaps most importantly, Tom is an advocate for our staff and seeks to support them in their engagements with our clients. He is able to facilitate the right conversations to ensure that expectations are managed and client’s goals are achieved.

When Tom isn’t in the office or on the road visiting a client you can try and catch him doing a lap of the You Yangs on his mountain bike, or shredding in the snow with his two kids over winter.
